Baby Teeth
"Baby" teeth or deciduous teeth are similar to baby teeth in humans. Generally, the deciduous teeth of dogs and cats begin to fall out at 16 weeks of age as the adult tooth erupts from below. You should never have an adult and a baby tooth occupying the same space. If this occurs bad things can happen. The adult tooth can be forced out of position by a retained baby tooth. Overcrowding can cause mal-positioning of other teeth. Finally, tartar can quicky form in the space between the adult and retained baby tooth leading to permanent damage and possible tooth loss.
